Project summary:

Employees at a water treatment plant found that a Y-shaped pipe section with a mechanical clamp was slowly leaking when in full service. They reached out to their maintenance contractor who recommended a composite repair with Advanced FRP that would encapsulate the entire repair area, allowing the clamp to remain in place. To install the repair, the area around the clamp was sand blasted to a near-white metal finish and, after applying a hold primer, a load transfer putty was applied to smooth the area over the clamp. The pipe was then wrapped in a 6-layer carbon fiber system and covered with an epoxy topcoat.
